– 30 hectares (60 acres) of red vine : mainly Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon

In order to protect their soil quality, they have developed environment friendly agricultural practices by strongly reducing the use of treatments and chemical fertilizers to the benefit of organic compounds drawn in parts from cattle farming.

THE WINERY

The huge modern winery spreads over 2000 m2 and has been dug into the hillside to guarantee natural freshness and isolation; it has been equipped with powerful material insuring coolness, temperature control and micro oxygenation by using physical methods, which therefore guarantee high and constant quality to their wines along with optimal conditions for vinification.
Performance and tradition blend to highlight the Château Pique-Sègue’s particularity under the cellar master’s and the consulting oenologist’s watchful eye.

Château Pique-Sègue is one of the main producer of Montravel AOC.

Identified during the 14th century by the Archbishop of Bordeaux, the Château Pique-Sègue vineyard already had at the time the reputation of being the best producer of Montravel and Bergerac.
Between Saint-Emilion and Bergerac, the vineyard is located on the hill of Libournais, an exceptional soil.

Run by Philip and Marianne Mallard the 180 hectares (360 acres) property includes 66 hectares (132 acres) of grapes along with a large HBL Limousins cattle herd meant for HBL breeding purposes with high genetic values.

All wines produced on this domain receive every year numerous national or international awards. Professional magazines like “La Revue des Vins de France”, “Decanter” etc …, references every year in the best guides (2* Hachette « coup de cœur » in white and red, Bettane & Dessauve…).

Thanks to the efforts done by leaders such as the Mallard’s, Bergerac and  Montravel wines have undergone a renaissance during these last 20 years thanks to an excellent technical knowledge in viticulture and vinification.

Soil and savoir-faire remain the best guarantee for a good wine.

Philip and Marianne have surrounded themselves with a competent qualified and passionate team from the grape to the winery.
